Missions Month

May 14, 2007

missionsmonth.jpgMay is Missions Month here at church. So far we have had two very good weeks. The first Sunday of May Missionary P.D. Cherian was here with us and yesterday Missionary Santhosh George and his family were with us. It has been both challenging and encouraging. This next weekend Missionary Neng Thang and his family will be here. He will be sharing a challenge at the Men’s Prayer Dinner at 5:00pm on Saturday. I’d encourage any and all of you guys to plan to make it out for that time. I am excited to hear what the Lord is doing in the land of Myanmar. We will also be meeting with the combined Adult Bible Fellowships during the Sunday School hour as Missionary Thang presents the work in Myanmar. Hope to see you there!

Prayer Needed

April 10, 2007

I just got this e-mail a couple minutes ago. Please take some time today and pray for Isabel.

Hello Everyone,

Well we made it four months in country before having to send out a prayer request like this.  This morning Isabel, our 3 year old, woke up having difficulty breathing.  I took her to the hospital this afternoon, where they admitted her for observation.  Her blood oxygen levels were in the high 70’s to low 80’s, not at all good.  So they gave her two treatments and decided to move her to a room and put her on oxygen, steroids and inhaler treatments every few hours.  A chest x-ray tonight revealed no visible pneumonia so the problem seems to be primarily asthma.

To say this is a stretching experience for us is an understatement.  Our Spanish is limited especially in the medical areas and so I’m overwhelmed by this, but God has been good to bring a nurse and a pediatrician that know a small amount of English.  Our prayer is that Isabel will be released in the morning.  I need to get some rest; it’s been a long day.  Thank you for praying!

Resting in Jesus,
Debbie Borrmann

UPDATE: 9:05pm

I can’t begin to express how grateful I am for our many prayer warriors!  I trust God will richly bless you for interceding on our behalf. Thank you for the emails to let us know you are praying for Isabel, and us. Today was much better, they took Isabel off the oxygen this afternoon and she is doing well.  Her blood oxygen levels are lower than they expect on room air in the states, but she is not struggling to breathe and she is definitely improving and is expected to be sent home in the morning.

The language barrier was still a trial but I’m learning new words. Ruth Perez came and sat with me for several hours, and took Simeon and Nehemiahto her house for awhile.  Adeline came to see Isabel tonight and raised her eyebrows a few times at the method of treatment.  She is our resident hospital expert and I’ll close by saying this entire experience is definitely worth a blog entry.

Resting In His Everlasting Arms,
Debbie

Pray for the Borrmanns & Howells

January 6, 2007

The Howell family is on their way back to Tanzania. Pray that they would have safety and that they would smoothly readjust to things in Mwanza, so that the ministry can continue effectively there.

Here are several prayer requests from the Borrmanns:

  1. The satellite ministry in Tarariras, Uruguay. The building being used now is owned by the Mormon Bishop and when he comes to town there can be no meetings. It would be best to find a new building.
  2. Dr. David Cummins, Baptist World Mission Deputation Director, will be here for two weeks and will have a very full schedule preaching and teaching Baptist history. Please pray for souls to be saved and believers to grow. Pray for his health and strength as well as that of Mrs. Cummins who will be here with him. The Cummins will leave from here to go to Brazil for a couple of weeks.
  3. Anniversary Sunday for La Iglesia Bautista Fundamental will be January 14th. The baptism service at the river is a tremendous opportunity to be a witness for Christ as the church members stand along the shore singing hymns and passing out tracts to passers by. Those being baptized are from both satellite mininstries in El General and Tarariras, as well as the mother church in El Real.
  4. Betina recently had brain surgery to remove a mass. This is her second such surgery, the last one was just three years ago. She was sent home from the hospital in Montevideo less than a week after her surgery. Pray for a full recovery.
  5. It would be good for us to get a vehicle soon please pray God will lead us to the right van. The Perez’ have graciously loaned us their car. Right now the container and immigration have taken up a lot of our O&P fund which leaves us short of the amount we need for a van.

We trust you all will have a Happy New Year following the Lord’s will for your lives.

Prayer Requests from Two Missionaries

December 19, 2006

FROM THE SANDAHLS

Please bring our Co-Workers, Walter and Dalene Clark before the LORD in prayer. They received letters today from the local School Board concerning the school registration of their two older daughters, who are being home schooled. This could involve a substantial fine as well as effect their visas. We treasure their help and covet your prayers.

In HIM, who is able

FROM THE HOWELLS

1. Paulo Machibya (Sweya), Eliasi Mashauri (Nyakaliro), and Ferdinand Mwailafu (Shadi) pastoring the churches in Mwanza.
2. Current Bible Institute students who are completing course work for their sophomore year.
3. Bible Institute applicants who are working on a pre-entry course with their respective pastors.
4. Spiritual growth and safety for Tumaini staff and children. We currently have 15 children.

Rob Howell

Sandahl Update

December 15, 2006

Fri, 15 Dec 2006 08:04:40

My family and I want to thank you for your prayers for my brother John. The LORD has taken John out of his suffering. Last night, John was promoted to Glory. Precious, therefore taken.

Please continue to pray for Sharon, his wife, and for their Children.

Safe in Him,

Joel Sandahl

Prayer Request from the Sandahl Family

December 7, 2006

Here is a prayer request from the Sandahl’s, our missionaries in Dresden, Germany.

Dear Praying Friends,

Please pray for my brother, John Sandahl. Just before Dad’s Funeral he was feeling very weak and found out he has some type of Carcenoma. The cancer seems to be in many areas. Chemo treatments had to be stopped. He was released from the hospital last Friday and shortly thereafter another blockage was found. The prognosis, barring God’s intervention, seems to be just a couple of weeks. We are praying for a helping hand from the God, to whom nothing is impossible. Will you please pray with us?

IN CHRIST

Please Pray

November 17, 2006

I just got this a few minutes ago in an e-mail from our missionary Mike Jewell (Brazil).

Just a few minutes ago, our next door neighbor, Roberto (must be about 23), slit his wrist after drinking several cans of beer and taking an overdose of a drug. Pray for him. The maid came to our house asking for help and I was first on the scene. I spent several minutes trying to revive him and was able to pray over him before the medical team arrived but he was in and out of consciousness. He is NOT saved and may already have passed into eternity.  Pray for another opportunity to share Christ’s love with him.

UPDATE:

November 18,2006
Roberto is still alive. In fact he returned to his house last night. Pray
for an open door to share the Gospel.

From the Borrmann’s Blog

November 8, 2006

“Yesterday marked our final deputation missions conference. Since I have been writing about the conferences we’ve been in, I thought the illustration Pastor Rouse of Mountain View Baptist used was very powerful and must be passed on.

The Pulitzer Prize winning photo at left was taken by a South African photojournalist. The story is told that once he took this photo he got back in his vehicle and left the dying child to the vulture. Seeing only a photo opportunity he never thought to spare the child of the impending death. Some months later he was asked what happened to the child and later took his own life for the reality of what he had done was too much to bear.

How often do we walk into a store, or spend time with our friends and family, feel the pricking of the Holy Spirit to share Christ, yet we go on with our lives, never seeing beyond ourselves? All the while the vulture waits to consume them!

Oh, Lord, help us to see that those around us are dying and in need of salvation through Jesus Christ. Help us not to forget that there is indeed a cause. May we shine forth your light so the world may know you.”

Great News from Brazil

October 14, 2006

Here is great news from the Jewell’s in Brazil.

Romans 16:5 Likewise greet … Emerson, who is the firstfruits of (our seedsowing ministry in Jardim Europa)…. Well, this isn’t exactly what Paul said in Romans 16:5 but it expressed my sentiments as I asked Emerson if he had accepted Christ as his Savior and he said, “Pastor, I prayed and asked Jesus to forgive my sins and come into my life.” Praise the Lord with us! Emerson has become the “firstfruits” of our Tuesday seedsowing ministry and he his store is very near our house. He has been doing studies for the past couple of weeks and came to Christ just a couple of days ago. We’re excited to see what God has in store for him.

You can read regular updates from the Jewell’s and their ministry in Sorocaba, São Paulo, Brazil here.
